Many Astros fans will be attending not only the games but also watch parties, whether at a local bar showing the game or simply going to a friend or relative’s home.
There are lots of options to enjoy the World Series, but driving drunk is NOT one of them.
We want to remind everyone that the Houston Police Department (HPD) and our local and State law enforcement partners will have extra officers out conducting DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) enforcement.
Houston/Harris County consistently ranks in the top for drug and alcohol–related crashes and fatalities. That is a title we definitely don’t want to hold the trophy for.
Every weekend, including this one, is no-refusal weekend, so please do the responsible thing and if you are going to drink, please have a designated driver, or plan another way home, such as mass transit or ridesharing.
Some people may think just because it is only a five to ten-minute drive to a friend or relative’s house to watch the game, nothing can happen. Tragedy can strike at any time.
Homeowners hosting watch parties should also be responsible about serving alcohol. If someone appears over the limit, do not continue to serve them. If that person leaves your residence impaired and get into a crash that injures or kills someone, that homeowner is also liable and can be charged.
Don’t ruin your World Series celebration by having to watch the games from a jail cell.
Choose your ride wisely and don’t drink and drive.
